Located on the northern outskirts of Orange, in central western NSW, the garden is conveniently located alongside the by pass road which rings Orange. The garden's plantings range from original native and exotic trees to newly developed displays.

Sydney circa 1822 – Lieutenant Percy Simpson is sent with a crew of 'educated convicts' from Sydney over the Great Divide with orders from Governor Brisbane to establish an experimental agricultural settlement in the Wellington Valley. The convict colony here settles in an abundant regional food belt and declares the village of Orange 'open for business' in 1846.
