IYA is an award-winning restaurant and cultural hub full of beautiful hidden surprises in the heart of Buea. In this renovated mid-60s colonial build you’ll find a restaurant, literary café, creative event and cultural spaces.
Once a French consulate - in British Cameroon - IYA was renovated in 2015 by entrepreneurs Ranx Kunda and Alexander Bede and transformed into a contemporary restaurant and creative space, creating a beacon for the local community and visitors.
“We aimed to pay homage to Cameroon’s rich and diverse food and cultural heritage in the modern vein of a multipurpose space where gastronomy and cultural projects are developed hand in hand with the community.” A friendly atmosphere, simplicity and a memorable experience is at the heart of everything IYA.
