A Streetcar named Desire


Every morning at 5:30 a.m., Streetcar 52 barreled out of the Kansas City terminal. Her destination, St. Joseph then Excelsior Springs. Commonly called "The Inter-Urban", she spent her days carrying hundreds of workers between Kansas City and communities north of the river.

The original Streecar named Desire Restaurant was established in 1964. Located at 4922 Main Street, the Streetcar was attached to the front of a house.

In 1984, Streetcar 52 made one more trip and relocated to Crown Center.
