The Copper Bar

Since 1978, The Copper Bar has been serving up "Lots of Good Cheap Food and Dozens of Beers" to a legion of happy patrons.

Marshall’s "Neighborhood Bar", The Copper Bar operates in the historic downtown area of Marshall, Michigan. A casual place with a relaxed and friendly atmosphere, the tavern has been a local favorite since opening its doors. Though the name has changed over the years (from the Tom Conley saloon in 1893, to the Snug Lunchroom in 1900, to the Stag Tavern in 1941, to Hindy’s in 1969, and finally to The Copper Bar in 1978), the good food and great service has remained the same.

Perhaps best known for beer served in pint jars and peanut shells on the floor, people return time and again for a great “bar burger” or the popular Hot Dog Day every Thursday. The menu is typical of a neighborhood bar, with items ranging from hot dogs and burgers to fish baskets to the Copper Spud (a baked potato covered in chili, two types of cheese and sour cream). If you’re lucky, you’ll wander in as fresh roasted peanuts come out of the old coffee roaster in the front window. Owner Jimmy Bicknell strives to maintain a family atmosphere (more than one patron has been asked to leave for using the “F” word), and he may just pull a stool up to your table to chat for a while when you stop in.

The Copper Bar accepts cash and local checks (with proper identification), but does not accept credit or debit cards. The kitchen operates from 11:00 am to 11:00 pm Monday through Thursday, from 11:00 am – midnight on Fridays and Saturdays, and from noon until 11:00 pm on Sundays.
