Five and Ten


After working under Chefs Rob MacDonald, Mike Fennelly and Gary Danko, Acheson found his own style forging together the beauty of the South with the flavors of Europe. In 2000 Acheson and his wife moved to Athens to open Five & Ten.

In its infancy Acheson envisioned a neighborhood restaurant that would be universally loved for being a significant part of the community. Five & Ten has become that and so much more, garnering national attention and accolades while remaining a community staple and fulfilling its natural obligation to be a proponent of the region.

Shortly after it opened, Food & Wine recognized Acheson as a Best New Chef. In 2007, the Atlanta Journal Constitution named Five & Ten the best restaurant of the year. Then in 2012, Acheson was awarded the James Beard Foundation Award for Best Chef Southeast for his work at Five & Ten.

In Acheson’s own words, Five & Ten is, and was always meant to be a place to “revel in great food, and drink, and where the patron would, quite simply, be happy.”
