Black Cat has been proudly South African since 1926 when Alderton Limited first produced this new protein packed, 'wonder food', peanut butter, in Potgietersrus. The product was proving so popular that the Tiger Oats Company knew it was going to be a smashing success and took over the manufacturing of Black Cat.
Black Cat continued to grow and expanded into party peanuts and cooking oils, as well as sport and media sponsorship. Even with the competition in the peanut butter market intensifying in the 1970's, Black Cat still had the lion's share of the market. And once television hit South Africa, Black Cat took full advantage. Who can forget the "Black belt? U-uh. Black Cat" adverts.
