New pizza shop open in Owego. Barleycorn Pizza is now operating out of the upstairs kitchen in the John Barleycorn Tavern on River row. Specializing in hand tossed gourmet thin crust pizza. Only the finest ingredients used. All pizzas are personally made by Bob Tiddick who brings 20 years of pizza making experience to Owego. Bob has a passion for making quality pizza. In the past he has made pizza at some of the best pizzerias in the region including; Aiello's in Whitney Point, Ruffino's in Oneonta, Sal's in Cooperstown, Monteleone's in Cortland, Joes Restaurant in Ithaca, and the former Villa Trinceri in Dryden. Bob uses only the finest ingredients including 100% Grande Whole Milk mozzarella well renowned as the best pizza making cheese on the market. Bob's dough has become a favorite of many local pizza connoisseurs. His special homemade dough recipe is very light unlike the heavy dough found at most pizza shops. Other restaurants in the region have been looking to get their hands on the Barleycorn Pizza dough recipe. Bob uses only the best fresh vegetables in creating the various combination pizzas on the menu including; green peppers, jalapeno peppers, mushrooms, red onions, tomatoes,baby spinach greens, and fresh garlic.
Other toppings include; Chicken breast, hot sausage, spicy pepperoni, crumbly feta cheese, cooked bacon strips, black forest ham, pineapple, black olives, spicy buffalo sauce, and ranch dressing.
Bob also offers the only seafood combination pizza in the area. This includes a white garlic pizza topped with a combination of cooked shrimp, scallops, and freshly cracked crab legs.
All pizzas are also garnished with a special sprinkle of seasonings.
Bob also offers possibly the "hottest" pizza in the world. He grows his own Ghost and Scorpion hot chili peppers. If you like heat Bob will recommend an appropriate level of heat to start with and you can work your way up to a full fledged "man vs food" pizza that will put your picture on the "wall of flame" in the bar.
Bob also makes homemade calzones and Stromboli. Each is made with a whole 11" pie crust and can be configured with any of the various toppings. Bob's Stromboli's are carefully handbraided for a visual as well as delectable pizza alternative.
Pizza's can be eaten in the bar while you enjoy your favorite beverage or listen to some of the area's best live music, or you can order pizzas to go.
