Tumbarumba Women's Bowling Club

Tumbarumba is a beautiful little town nestling in the foothills of the Snowy Mountains. It has a population of about 2000 very friendly people.

Tumbarumba has a lovely climate – sunny days through spring, summer and autumn with hot nights being a rarity. Winter can be a bit chilly with heavy heavy frosts in the morning and sometimes even a snowfall. Frosty mornings are invariably followed by a brilliant sunny day.

Tumbarumba has many of the facilities of a larger centre e.g.
A bowling club with two very good greens, a restaurant and a motel just across the road from the bowling club where there are very comfortable beds and very genial hosts.
A nine hole golf course which can be challenging – the golf club also has a restaurant
A very active tennis club
cinema cafe
several great coffee shops

Tumbarumba sports a bridge club, camera club and a writers club as well as Rotary, Rotoract, Lions and Omni just to name a few.

The Turf Club hold a race meeting once a year at the beautiful race course – it is worth going to the races just to see the beautiful trees planted by the forefathers of Tumbarumba and the lovely old grandstand. It is interesting to note that the horses disappear for a very short time at one stage of the race – but not long enough for any shady business.

The Rodeo Club are very active and hold a rodeo each New Years Day. They have done this for many many years. The setting for the rodeo is the Tumbarumba Show ground which is beautiful in its own right. Many huge shade trees and a crystal clear creek running through it are features of the show grounds. Platypus are frequently sighted in the creek. Trail rides are often held for the horse minded.

There are many lovely walks in the district. Part of the Hume and Hovell walking trail runs through the Shire and there are many scenic attractions such as Sugar Pine Walk, Paddy's River Falls, Paddy's River Dam is a very popular camping spot for people hoping to catch a trout, see brumbies or deer, not too mention dingoes. Mannus Dam is a great spot for bird watching. King Parrots, Rosella’s, Gang-gangs and Kookaburras are frequent visitors to the area. King Parrots are found walking the streets when the catalpa trees drop seeds.

There are several historic buildings in the town and Wolter Cottages are well worth a look. There is a pictorial history of the cottages built by Lorenz Wolter a German migrant who was a very entrepreneurial gold seeking pioneer. There are many relics of the gold days to be seen in the district and many of the townspeople are direct descendants of the early gold miners.

Tumbarumba is very close to the Snowy Hydro Scheme which in itself is quite amazing. Many of the dams associated with this scheme are close and are great for trout fishing as well as providing electricity.

A great feature of Tumbarumba is the crystal clear creek that runs through the town, the banks of the creek make a great spot for picnics and BBQ's fishing for trout and catching yabbies. A licence is required for fishing. BBQ's are free of charge, courtesy of the Tumbarumba Shire Council.

There is a great caravan park on the banks of the creek, just minutes from the main street and all its attractions.

Tumbarumba is a really beautiful place to visit particularly for a few games of bowls.
