In the foothills of Mt Kenya, Transit Motel is a good base for climbing the mountain from the Chogoria Route. The motel provides experienced mountain guides, porters and transport to the start of the Chogoria Route.
Camping and climbing equipment including tents, rucksacks, sleeping bags, stoves, gas lamps and crampons are available for hire.
The hotel has 36 en-suite rooms, made up of 18 singles, 15 doubles and 3 triples. The rooms all have mosquito net, cupboard, writing table and chair and balcony.
There is also a campsite, with bathroom facilities, a kitchen banda and a dining banda. Chefs can be provided on request.
The restaurant serves international dishes such as beef stroganoff, roast potatoes and fried chicken, fish and chips, nyama choma, ugali na kachumbari, 'ngombe boiro' and many others.
The rooftop bar serves a wide selection of soft drinks, juices, beers and spirits, and is equipped with a selection of books, scrabble, chess board, dartboard and satellite TV.
The rooftop has lovely sunset views of Mount Kenya, shaded seating areas and a pool table.
Restaurant Hall, Jambo Hall and Kithima Hall are all available for conferences.
Transit Motel is 1 km from the Meru-Embu Highway. From the Motel to the Meru Mt Kenya Lodge is 25km, 4WD required. The start of the Chogoria Route is a further 10km beyond the lodge.
