Mauel's Dairy

The history of Mauel's Dairy is a story of family and dairy products. The company was founded in 1919 in Owen, Wisconsin by Henry "Pa" Mauel, Sr. Taking the knowledge he had gained making cheese for his father, William Mauel, began making his own cheese in a plant he purchased in Owen, Wisconsin. With the advent of freezers he used the knowledge he had gained at the University of Wisconsin and began making ice cream. Later he began bottling milk. He sold his interest in the dairy in 1960 to his son Henry Mauel, Jr. but continued working until 1981 when he had turned 87 years old.

When his son Henry Mauel, Jr. purchased the business he built a new plant. Production was now focused on ice cream. At that point the business expanded and began selling ice cream door to door. A retail store located at the ice cream plant was also opened. With the advent of the new plant Mauel's Dairy became distributors for other dairy products. He sold his interest in the business to his son John in 1993.

When John Mauel purchased the business he began expanding into store delivery in the nine county areas around Owen. He also began working with groups that sell ice cream at events and fund raisers.

While the inevitable changes that must occur in any business have happened at Mauel's Dairy the founding principals that have served this company since 1919 remain in place. Great tasting ice cream, wholesome ingredients and friendly service still is the cornerstone of all that we do.
