Back Road BBQ

Our team got together in January of this year with an idea and a love of good food. Friends, neighbors and strangers were asking for an addition to the restaurant community, and though we all wanted to cook and work together, there wasn’t a brick and mortar location that fit just right. How do you serve a whole region if you can’t go to them? The rural nature of Vermont is why we love it, but it makes it hard to find a location that works for everyone. The answer? Food truck. The food? BBQ! Not wanting to compete with fellow business owners that we admire and restaurants we patronize, we truly felt that BBQ would be a welcome addition- and it just so happens to be our favorite food to cook (and who are we kidding- to eat!).

Our team is made up of four guys from Central Vermont and the Northeast Kingdom. We are farmers, chefs and businessmen who believe in providing delicious food to all using farm fresh animals and vegetables we can raise and produce here in Vermont.

Our member/operators are as follows:
Ben Nottermann, a lifetime farmer, is our exclusive provider of pastured pork and grass fed beef. Ben operates several agricultural based businesses and teaches the forestry program at Lamoille Tech Center. He also raises a mass quantity of pumpkins at his farm each year and works tirelessly with his family to provide the best quality pork and beef available.

Isaac Gresser, our pit-master and head chef, grew up in the town of Stannard, Vt. He attended culinary school at NECI (New England Culinary Institute). Isaac has worked with some of the best of the best in New York City and Burlington, Vt. among other places. Isaac has created a menu of delicious American style BBQ that represents the unique qualities of Vermont.

Charles Lee, our sous chef, grew up in Hardwick, and has been cooking since he was a young teenager. He started in one of Vermont's premier restaurants, Claire's of Hardwick, Vt., and has worked at restaurants in Burlington, and the Northeast Kingdom. Charlie brings years of experience in the kitchen and a very calm presence to the team.

Brock Miller, our GM, has been running restaurants around Vermont since the age of 19. He grew up in Cabot, Vt and attended Burlington's Champlain College for Hospitality Management. Brock is a chef, a gardener and a sugarmaker. He brings years of management experience in the food industry and an undying love for pulled pork to the group.

Since announcing our idea in early April and beginning to fundraise for our food truck/trailer, the community support and enthusiasm has been incredible. We are constantly humbled, excited and honored by the level of interest in our concept. We have already booked recurring events and catering events throughout the summer, and are receiving new inquiries and bookings almost daily. We are thrilled!

Thank you so much for reading about our business. We are so excited to be a Vermont whole-hog BBQ food truck. The people of Vermont are incredible entrepreneurs, and are so supportive of one another…. The outreach we have received so far tells us that Vermont wants more BBQ, and we can’t wait to provide it!
