Surrounded by dense vegetation and the rural sounds of the Caribbean countryside, Ristorante Pappagallo looks and feels like an upscale tropical outpost from an earlier era, its sturdy wooden structure supporting two huge thatch roofs and large beautifully-woven fans. Arriving after dark, you’ll see the restaurants’ lights which reflect in the lagoon teeming with silvery tarpon and send out a golden glow into the velvety night.
You are thrown into a world of the exotic, even before reaching the front door! Then, as you enter the foyer, you’re met at the front door by an African gray parrot, humorously called Humphrey Bogart , one of the oldest Pappagallo employees with over 25 years experience in welcoming guests and posing for photos (especially with the little ones!) You will then immediately notice the inviting and well-stocked bar, decorated in an art deco style, where customers can take pre-dinner cocktails or enjoy an after-dinner drink in a cool and inviting atmosphere.
To the right of the foyer, lies one of our two dining rooms, the Pappagallo Room. Inside, the impressive high ceiling will grab your attention with its typical Mexican-style thatching. Wrought iron lighting gently illuminate the air-conditioned room and huge glass-fronted bird cages feature all around the walls housing parrots, macaws, cockatoos and African grays, all vying for your attention.
On the left of the foyer you get access to Flamingo Room , nestled under a vaulted thatched roof with lazy revolving ceiling fans, as you approach the edge of this dining area you will enter the garden patio : a large open air , screened in dining area, which is overlooking a tidal salt water lagoon and a 14 acres birds sanctuary , this is a popular dining area especially in the coolest months of year .
Like many an Italian restaurant, there’s a strong sense of family about Ristorante Pappagallo (a word that means parrot in Italian). Not only has Bogey been welcoming patrons at the door
for 25 years but many of the staff have also been there for some time , welcoming new a returning guest alike .
Expect only fresh fruit to be used in the exquisitely-crafted handmade desserts and only fresh vegetables in the sauces and sides.
