BARRA in Italian = BAR...upscale, yet casual and affordable...wine, craft beer, Italian tapas, brick oven pizza, mozzarella and gelato bar and much more!
COMING Summer 2017
Welcome to Barra Italian Street Kitchen
“BARRA” is the Italian translation for the word BAR. Does it mean Pizza bar?
Wine Bar? Mozzarella Bar? Tapas Bar? Gelato Bar? Yes! It means all of those to us
What is an “ITALIAN STREET KITCHEN”?
Our definition is a “local restaurant on a street in Italy” reminiscent of Naples right here in Connecticut. Providing all the sights, sounds and smells that entice your senses overlooking an “open” kitchen with our custom built 900 degree wood fired brick oven, burning in the back drop.
Why have an open kitchen some ask?
“CUZ” We want you to see what were cookin!
Barra is a collaboration of industry professionals and renown Chef’s mixed with Nonna’s old school recipes.
Our formula is simple…Bring the finest Italian style eatery & wine bar to Shelton! The vibe at Barra will be upscale-casual, with an urban Italian décor highlighted with exposed brick, wood & steel. The huge bar area overlooks an open kitchen for you to enjoy the action.
Whether you’re enjoying a vintage glass of wine, a pint of craft beer, or a handcrafted cocktail, you can watch our Chef’s or even “Nonna” make an authentic Neopolitan pizza, homemade mozzarella or shave prosciutto so thin it will melt in your mouth…right in front
of you!
The main dining area and outdoor “Terrazza” provide a slight respite from the lounge, offering guests a different atmosphere to enjoy the diverse menu consisting of only the finest ingredients imported from Italy and Arthur Ave. in “Da Bronx”
Barra is not a new concept to its creator and co-owner, Kurt Popick, the respected restaurateur of the original Pub25 in Newtown (voted best pub grub, CT MAGAZINE) and the infamous Prime One Eleven Steakhouse in Trumbull, Kurt has been working on his vision of an Italian eatery with some of the industry’s most profound leaders for over two years to bring you something truly exceptional!
Now for a little fun…
The never ending argument…Is it called sauce or gravy? We at Barra call it…
MACARONI & SAUCE! Any real Italian knows it’s SAUCE!
“Just don’t tell me it’s GRAVY! Because it insults my intelligence!”
(The word gravy does not exist in the Italian language)
Say it right!
“CUZ” ya don’t wanna be called a MAMALUKE – idiot/fool (mamalucco) [maa-maa- LOUK]
We are excited to bring you BARRA!
