オーベルジュあかだま(フレンチ島宿)は長崎大島西海の新鮮・安心な食材(海鮮・野菜)とフレンチの食材をコラボレートとした味自慢な隠れ家的な宿です。

「あかだま」。モダンでレトロな響きである。昭和４３年にシェフのご両親が地元大島町で開いた「赤玉食堂」が屋号の由来だそうだ。なるほど迎える客をほっとさせる訳である。
何といっても地元で獲れる豊富で新鮮な魚介類には驚かされる。食材本来の旨味を引き出すように工夫された料理の数々、心も身体も喜んでいるのが自分でもよく分かる。
緑に囲まれた敷地内にはレストランの他、三棟の離れの客室とオーナーシェフの趣味の部屋を兼ねたライブラリー棟がある。全てのお客様が安心できるようにと建材にまで配慮が行き届いており、床には浄化剤として炭を用い、フランスから入手した漆喰壁にはシェフと奥様の自分たちの手により蜜蝋が塗られてある。華美な装飾はない。それだけに床一面に広がる木々の影模様が美しく感じられる。周囲の自然林がカーテンの代りとなり、部屋の中には一日中柔らかな自然の光が溢れている。その中で全ての旅人は安らぎを取り戻すのである。 Soshiro Nakakura :著

"AKADAMA" sounds both nostalgic and modern. It was derived from the name"AKADAMA SHOKUDO (AKADAMA Bistro)", which had been run by the parents of the chef since 1968 in a rural town in Oshima. This is one of the reasons that guests get a feeling of being at home whenever they stay in this peaceful getaway.
Best of all, amazingly fresh and abundant seafood is caught daily from the local sea. There are so many beautiful dishes which are enhanced by the natural flavor of the ingredients as well as the talent and skill of the chef. He uses his knowledge of local cuisine to combine tradition and innovation in every mouth-watering dish. This is truly a culinary experience that enchants the mind and body.
Adjacent to the restaurant which is surrounded by greenery, there are three separate lodging facilities as well as a library. Spend a tranquil afternoon indulging in the chef’s personal hobby room and explore new creative endeavors. He has even considered the architectural materials used to enhance the comfort and relaxation of every guest. Charcoal is used to bring out the natural beauty of the floors and walls imported from France which are painstakingly vanished with beeswax by the chef and his wife.
There is no ornate decoration or even curtains on the windows. This dissolves the boundary between guests and nature so that you can see the beautiful shadows of the trees dance on the walls and floors. The thick woods surrounding the accommodations replace the privacy provided by curtains and the rooms are full of soft, natural light that shines through the leaves all day long.
