11Hauz Mission Statement:
To bring Jamaican culture to Utah, educating and interacting with integrity and humility.
Montego Bay Jamaica, Mount Salem, there lived a family of 11. Florence Harding, granny, chef, mother, grandmother and over all provider, worked her hands day and night until they were callus. We were poor, but, hard she worked providing for her family.
Granny cooked for a Chinese family who migrated to Jamaica in the late 1940s. She prepared fresh meals for the Chin and Changs from the cocks crow, then walked home to prepare a fresh meal for her family of eleven. She walked 6 miles a day, worked seven days a week.
No matter the age, when granny lit the coal burning stove in the yard, children would gather around. Sheron Grant, partner, and chef of 11Hauz stood among those children.
"We would help to prep and watch in amazement! Whenever granny left the pot unattended, we would attempt to sneak a quick taste. Her cooking, heaven in my mouth. I always wanted to be a chef like my grandmother. Looking back, this gave me drive to pursue catering, building towards a restaurant."
Blessed with cooking hands and grandmas recipes, Sheron carried on the family legacy. Now in Park City, Utah, 11Hauz wants to entice, fill your pallet with grandmas authentic Jamaican recipes.
