Bringing various kinds of tempeh to the Okanagan!

Vegilante

In December 2015 the owner, Martin, decided to go vegan for environmental and ethical reasons. In October 2016 Martin found himself relocated to Kelowna, leaving his corporate life back in Ottawa. Throughout this process Martin has always been a fan of exercise, specifically powerlifting. Being a number's guy he would calculate his meal plans to ensure all macro and micronutrients requirements were being met. He would often search online for high protein plant based foods to add variety to his diet.

During his searches he would often see tempeh mentioned but couldn't never find it in his community. He ordered the supplies and decided to make his first batch in February 2017. He gave some samples to his friends and the feedback was great. Fast foward to May and Martin got laid off from his job. Through WorkBC he was connected with the Community Futures Self-Employment program where he was given the opportunity to turn this passion into a business.

After being done the classes he connected with Motherlove Ferments, a local business specializing in fermented foods, with a focus on kombucha. Vegilante is currently working with Motherlove to learn the industry. This has been an amazing experience to gain knowledge into the wonderful world of fermented foods.

Currently, we are undergoing the approval process with Interior Health. Within the first quarter of 2018 we are expecting Vegilante to be able to start making tempeh to the community. Stay tuned!
