On the site of The Red Cat as we know it today was a small pub called The New Inn, We are unsure as to when The New Inn started as a public house but it was already established when the Tithe Map was produced in 1849.
The cluster of building around the pub included a cattle market and a function hall, the lane to Homestead farm leading to the path to Saughall Massie started behind the pub, this lane was known locally as “Pullens Lane”
