When we saw 815 Main Street, we were thrilled with its location – directly and symbolically across from The Barnum Museum: a place of childhood memory and wonder. The interior seemed cavernous, with quite unattractive overhanging air-conditioning vents and remnants of what had previously been offices. There was a concern for acoustics – the need to create a sense of quiet and intimacy for spirited conversations and whispered romantic trysts. But the potential was evident: the challenge of the blank canvas.
From the outset, we were committed to maintaining the architectural integrity of the space: sweeping and open. Patio dining would occur in a garden – a central theme reiterated within. We wanted the interior to reflect a sense of the surreal – like walking through a wonderful dream.
Against this backdrop, the kitchen boasts state-of-the-art equipment and computerized communication systems in service to fresh, sumptuous, traditional but creative, cuisine. Our objective: an ambience of warmth and civility to accompany the pleasure of the finest dining possible in an accessible, family-friendly, yet affordable restaurant in our own downtown Bridgeport.
