Rhinelander's Northwood Golf Club opened in May of 1989, and instantly became a destination golf course even while being 3 hours north of Wisconsin's major cities.

A quote from Ron Manske, writer from the Fond Du Lac reporter, "If Northwood was closer to the center of the state, it would receive even more play then it already does. And if it were in a metropolitan area, it would either be private or so popular you wouldn't be able to get on it."
