Just a mile from the M1 on the Newport Pagnell road at Wootton, Northamptonshire, Northampton Garden Centre first opened its doors in 1978 and has been serving not only the local area but the whole county ever since. Opened by the appropriately named Basil Bean and deemed at the time - more like a leisure centre for the whole family than just a garden centre - it has remained a popular part of the community, well known for its top quality growing stock, friendly and knowledgeable staff and their willingness to dispense good practical advice on all aspects of garden care.
Whilst the core business remains gardening and gardening products, these are complemented by an excellent range of garden furniture, wild bird care products, floristry, giftware, clothing and cards. Eight concessions sell a variety of goods from aquatics and pet accessories to swimming pools and suitcases whilst hungry or thirsty customers are spoilt for choice with a great restaurant serving delicious home-made food. Regular barbecue demonstrations in the summer are hugely popular, as is the Christmas grotto and the centre prides itself on working continuously with local schools, community centres and businesses to the benefit and enjoyment of all!
