LightnSalt光与盐

Light & Salt will house a series of unique shops & brands with the most refined offerings in food & beverage, arts & culture. From theme to product to ambiance, Light & Salt pays homage to and recreates the height of 1920’s-1930’s Old Shanghai culture – true to the spirit of the old YWCA building where Light & Salt makes its new home.

The Light & Salt premise includes:

Ms. Ding Dining – a vintage restaurant serving western food reminiscent of 1930’s Shanghai “Old Colors” style cuisine. Ms. Ding Dining will be headed by Executive Chef Rafael Qing, but will also include talents from all around the world to bolster its culinary strength. The restaurant is named for Ding Shujing – an early founder of YWCA in China, who mentored an entire generation of women like Madam Song Meiling in the very same building Light & Salt is located in.

L&S Books – by day the Light & Salt Books is a bookshop offering an expertly curated selection of both domestic and international titles on art, design, culture & literature. The bookshop also offers boutique services such as ex- libris book cards and 'bibliotherapy' – where book- lovers experiencing problems or stress may be recommended a tailored book list. More intense book- lovers may even engage our bespoke librarians, who will personally design, select & source a tailored library based on your personal taste. By night, the bookshop transforms to a well-stocked wine -bar, with up to 200 expertly selected labels.

Library Distillery – a 1930’s speakeasy style bar, focusing on rare & vintage spirits as well as reinterpretations of classic cocktails – hidden away in a library with steel doors, secret windows, menus disguised as magazines and intimate late night cabaret – a must for those looking for an authentic speak-easy experience. The Library Distillery will also sell vintage spirits from as far back as the 1900’s, matched with books published in the same year.

Wondullful Archive – imagine a museum where you can buy any exhibits you like. The Wondullful Archives is a conceptual shop and an creative space that’s glad to keep whatever you won’t buy. The Wondullful Archive showcases a set of unique or limited edition artistic goods & pieces. It is also an open studio for its own publishing projects.

Printograph – An artisanal printing studio where each job is custom tailored, designed and produced by veteran designers with expertly maintained printers.

With its unique blend of food, beverages, arts & culture, geared towards a vintage flavor, Light & Salt will be a valued contributor of Rockbund’s self-styled “urban renaissance”.
