Kaibo Beach "espresso" - Life's too short to drink bad coffee

A certain coffee shop chain started in the States four decades ago, expanded on a global scale and changed the way the world thought about coffee. Dried-out coffee flakes sold in tin cans were out. Highly polished European contraptions that hissed noisily and sent forth geysers of steam were in.
Despite, or perhaps because of, the rapid expansion of Starbucks and other standardized chains, small coffeehouses are flourishing. You and I are increasingly educated about our coffee and evaluate these independents with chains as a benchmark: is the coffee better or more interesting? Is the environment more appealing? Does it have an engaged clientele, or is it a generic coffee shop where you get your cup to go, head bowed?
A coffeehouse that meets the criteria for cool stands out from the crowd and attracts us for diverse reasons. Travelers have an extra appreciation for a neighborhood coffeehouse with personality—the last thing you want to drink on vacation is your workday cup of joe. We pop in to refuel after hours of watersports activities, (or a late night) but also to sample regional brews, people-watch, and find out about local goings-on.
So the arrival of Cayman’s new coffeehouse, Kaibo Beach ‘espresso’, draws us primarily for it’s own scene, a promise of a bustling morning crowd congregating daily on the breakfast deck. At quieter times, you can browse the small in-shop library and check out local artwork and gifts.
‘Espresso’, like the best coffeehouses, is fundamentally also a community center, where neighbors can be both alone and with others—and visitors can blend right in. And whilst you refuel your body and mind, you can fill up the car or boat at the gas station concession. As the retro-kitsch sign “Eat Here and Get Gas” suggests, Kaibo beach espresso is the place to start of your day with a light heart and a smile.
What’s the coffee like? The La Marzocco machine gives a clue as to where these guys are prepared to get serious. Kaibo Beach espresso’s main philosophy is about sourcing quality coffee with a conscience, a delivering with consistency. The coffee menu is nothing short of comprehensive.
It’s an artisan coffeehouse to the core and environmentally responsible too. Everything is done by hand from the baking of the bread, to the way they grind coffee beans and fill loose-leaf custom teabags. Now that’s cool.
