Before he retired, cafe owner E.J. Filipp applied the philosophy that the way to a man's heart is through his stomach. From 1951-1971 men, women and children of the Gulf Coast area sat down in Filipp's Cafe for one of the finest homestyle meals served in this part of Texas, according to many customers.
Grandpa had no idea that his little cafe on Danbury's main street would become the popular place that it was or that many years after he retired his name would continue to draw crowds in search of good food and wholesome atmosphere. He attributed the success of his business to grapevines. He felt that he and Grandma served "pretty good" food and when you serve good food the word gets around. Grandpa and Grandma worked fourteen hours a day dividing their duties 50/50. Grandpa took care of the dining room where the customers sat at cloth covered tables and Grandma took care of the kitchen and ended up with 14 employees. I have very fond memories at Filipp's Cafe while growing up.
Continuing in the same family tradition our family welcomes you to Fuilipp's Cafe. The location may have changed but we hope you find the same fine quality of food and atmosphere as you did in Grandpa and Grandma's day.
We thank you for your business and please come back and see us!
