Dr. J's Bbq & Brews

In 1858 the building which is now “The Montreal House” was built on the corner of King and Almer Streets for Dr. John Harvey and his son Dr. Alexander Harvey. In 1870 the building was sold and a boarding house was established . According to the achives, by 1883, The Montreal House was Peterborough’s first “Public House” serving beverages to the citizens of Peterborough and offering room and board on the second floor. With the plethora of bars in Peterborough, it is our goal to reimage The Montreal House as Dr. J’s BBQ and Brews. Dr. J’s will be in keeping with the history of the building by naming it after the original owner.

Southern BBQ (smoked) is a growing trend in Canada (CRFA). By bringing a unique menu, with a rapidly growing taste profile to Peterborough. This profile will be based on foods smoked throughout the South-eastern USA and Texas.
The Southern BBQ platform is a fun and messy eating experience! Big baskets of food served with side plates and a bucket for the bones with a roll of paper towels on the table. With the fall off the bone texture and flavour smoking provides, it is the ultimate finger food!
