This is not a fake page run by a disgruntled ex-employee trying to damage the hotel's reputation. It is a real page run by Paul Stenson, Manager of Charleville Lodge, and son of the owners.

At Charleville Lodge, we don't believe that social media is a place for selling. We believe it's a place for having a laugh and a bit of banter. Nobody likes a hotel Facebook page that's only trying to sell you 2 nights for the price of 1.

When you run a hotel with 30 rooms, you need to be fussy when it comes to accommodating guests. You want guests that suit you. With no kind of screening process in place, you are literally opening yourself up to the entire world. This situation is not ideal, as it could easily result in whingers and moaners checking in to your property.

We therefore use our Facebook page as a means of screening guests. A filtration system as it were. We purposely post content that will offend some people and make others giggle. People who take offence usually fall into one of two categories: (a) those who are deficient in intelligence and take our posts literally and (b) begrudgers - those who are sad by nature and want others to be as miserable as themselves.

Whether they be dumb or sad, people who chose to take offence to our posts will obviously never stay with us. This suits us abundantly, as people who complain on social media will probably complain in real life. It also makes our 30 rooms available to people who giggle; people with a sense of humour; people who realise you only live once.

While some of you may not understand what we are doing, and others think we are downright insane, rest assured that this strategy is working. It ensures that 100% of the guests staying with us are happy.
