Perched harbor-side in the historic village of Port Jefferson, Danfords Hotel & Marina is one of Long Island’s most notable waterfront destinations. WAVE Seafood I Steak plays off the panoramic views of the Long Island Sound seen from most every table.

History Meets Modern
A sense of history and nautical whimsy is evident throughout WAVE Seafood I Steak. Walls are dressed with postcard-worthy vistas framed by colorful images of sailing ships of yesteryear and a gallery of black and white photographic seascapes. In the dining room, existing heavy timber and woodworking have been reinvigorated in a wash of white and beige. The ceiling is highlighted with oversized chocolate silk fabric shades with brass and mahogany fans. WAVE’s lounge, a chic meeting spot where amber lighting complements brick façade features brown and teal accents and a white lacquered baby grand piano.

Al fresco guests enjoy sweeping views of Port Jefferson Harbor on the Admiral’s Deck in the warmer months and may also watch the Bridgeport/Port Jefferson Ferry come and go. Boaters may set their coordinates to 40.56.94 N and 73.04.21 W and pull into one of Danfords Marina’s 75 slips. Slip-side service is also offered in which a server will bring orders placed by phone directly to the boat.

Palate-Pleasing Offerings
WAVE Seafood I Steak combines flavor-rich cuisine, evolving menus showcasing seasonal selections, and attentive Nouvelle-style service.

Appetizers ($7-$17) “From Farms & Fields” and “From The Sea” feature: Applewood bacon wrapped dates with almonds; house salad of Young field greens, pine nuts, fennel, local heirloom tomatoes, strawberries and sherry vinaigrette; a trio tasting of ceviche with choice of coconut scallop, charred octopus, tuna poke, Mediterranean shrimp and grilled squid-white anchovy. Entrée offerings ($22-$49) “From The Grill” and “Inspired By The Sea” include: Double-cut pork chop, cast iron bean ragout, braised Long Island cabbage and Blue Point Toasted Lager reduction; Atlantic cod and potato gnocchi with lobster brown butter; and roasted whole fish featuring Chef’s daily inspiration with pancetta, seasonal vegetables, and mustard vinaigrette. Desserts ($8-$12) make for a sweet ending to each meal with selections such as: banana mille feuille, banana brûlé with spun sugar; chocolate mousse dome with vanilla pound cake; and lemon blueberry meringue with Myer lemon aigre-doux. Chef Levine has also implemented a new four-course family style menu with the “First WAVE” for $35 per person and the “Second WAVE” for $50 per person.

Lunch is a modified version of dinner offerings with casual selections from sandwiches to burgers. Lunch-only dishes include: chicken Caesar salad with crispy anchovies; traditional lobster roll and seasonal orzo salad; black Angus sirloin burger with choice of cheese and fries; fish and chips; and seafood Cobb salad. The pub menu, available in the lounge and for late-night eats, is another adaptation of the regular menu with suggested wine pairings. Eggplant cakes ($8), shrimp remoulade ($15), grilled artichokes ($9), seared tuna nicoise ($12) and “Ham & Eggs” ($10) are among the items offered.

Sips to Savor
Cocktails ($11) are a specialty that changes with the seasons. The signature beverage, Tidal WAVE, is a concoction of Malibu Coconut Rum, Blue Curacao, pineapple juice and cream of coconut. The list also features Cotton Candy Cosmo served with Pinnacle Cotton Candy Vodka and real cotton candy and a low calorie count option, VeeV Mojito, made with VeeV Acai Berry Spirit. Wine connoisseurs may choose from an array of local and international red, white, and reserve selections, by the bottle or glass.
