Toki Doki Meido x Shitsuji Cafe

Why the name Toki Doki?

Toki Doki Meido x Shitsuji Cafe

Years ago, before Jpop and anime were as alive as they are today, the term "toki doki" was used by the Japanese when they wished to express the feeling of one's heart "racing". It was used in the context of ”心が時々響く” or rather, "one's heart would beat a little faster (louder)".

True, "tokidoki" may in this context appear to mean "time and again" which is still the present day meaning of the word, but it also doubled as the presumed sound effect of one's heart beating. The sentence would then have two meanings! "My heart beats a little faster" and "My heart makes this toki doki sound." Of course, over the many years and the fact that the Japanese language is ever-growing and new slang terms always being made, the popular familiar term for one's heart beating has become "Doki doki", a little more comical and gender-neutral compared to its predecessor.

But enough culture class! We here at Toki Doki Cafe hope that you'll have a wonderful time at our cafe, enjoy the food, and interact with all our maids and butlers! Don't forget to look at the merchandise before you leave! You can also take a cheki (polaroid) with any of us in the cafe on the day itself! Lastly, it is our wish that we'll be able to make everyone happy, and that you'll all leave with smiles and that "toki doki" feeling in your hearts ^^
