The Handlebar, currently seeking a new venue, has presented thousands of concerts featuring a vast array of musicians, from the legendary to the unknown.
The Handlebar opened in September 1994 and since became the premier concert venue in the Upstate. The Handlebar's first location, at a 100-year-old textile mill, proved an unforgettable launching pad, until owners moved to an old auto-body shop on the other side of town. In April 2014, the venue was shuttered, but seeks a new location. In its 20 years in Greenville, the legendary concert spot (both spots!) helped launch the careers of John Mayer, Zac Brown Band, Sugarland and many more; welcomed such legends as John Hiatt, Joan Baez, Dr. John and more; and promoted dozens of Grammy Award and Grammy-nominated artists, as well as at least a half-dozen Rock 'n' Roll Hall of Fame inductees -- in all, more than 3,000 shows, leaving a last cultural impact on the community..
