Pecora Dairy makes hand crafted, quality Ewe's milk cheeses from the lush verdant pastures of Robertson

Pecora Dairy was launched in September 2011 by the McNamara family. Their farm is situated in Robertson, the Green Heart of the Southern Highlands, within 100 miles of Sydney. In 2011 the dream of Michael and Cressida’s to produce wonderful artisan cheeses from their own ewes has finally come to fruition.

They started with a handful of pure East Friesian sheep 6 years ago. Since, they have increased their flock size with careful breeding and selection for the best producing ewes. Their flock is made up of Australia’s only exclusive pure East Friesian milking ewes.

The East Friesian breed is the world’s highest producing dairy sheep. Originally from the Netherlands, introduced into Australia in the 90’s and have since been only breed by a few producers. The ewes are ideally suited to Robertson where they graze on lush pasture grown on rich red basalt soils. It is this wonderful combination of pasture and genetics which gives them the most amazing milk for their cheeses.

The McNamaras say “being dedicated to quality and passionate about our product we wanted to make sure our cheeses reached the highest standard before release. We were absolutely thrilled when or Jamberoo Mountain Blue won a Gold Medal at this year’s Sydney Royal.”

The benefits of ewe’s milk are numerous. It has been found to be beneficial for people who suffer from asthma and eczema and can possibly assist with other skin irritations as well. Further, people who are lactose intolerant are often able to tolerate sheep milk. It is incredibly nutritious milk with double the calcium, phosphorus and zinc and the all-important B group Vitamins, wonderful for children. (www.sheepdairying.co.uk/)
